Sara Whitner
Nursing Instructor
Background
Sara Whitner joined CGCC as a full-time instructor in the Nursing program in January 2021. She's a board certified APRN/Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and CCRN with a passion for critical care and resuscitation science. Sara teaches Year 1 didactic and clinical classes. An admitted "grammar Nazi," she really enjoys watching students blossom into critically-thinking nurses who can also use an apostrophe properly. Sara earned a BA in Psychology from Miami University (OH), a BSN from Cleveland State through their partnership with The Cleveland Clinic, and she completed her graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, where she sits on the Penn Nursing Alumni Board. Sara has worked both ICU and Telemetry as a bedside nurse in The Dalles, Portland, and as a travel RN, bouncing around the western US for years; and as a Critical Care CNS in northern Idaho.
Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Sara discovered the Gorge during her previous career as a sales rep for Patagonia. She moved here full time in 1999 to whitewater kayak and it felt like home almost immediately. Sara enjoys hiking, paddle boarding, international travel, and Mann-Booker prize novels, as well. She is thrilled to be living and working full time in the Gorge again, as opposed to being a nomad for work.
