Background

Kristie Towell grew up in Bremerton, Washington, a small town with a big naval base. After accumulating several college degrees in Portland, she moved to Hood River to teach Language Arts at Hood River Middle School, which she loved.

She reluctantly stopped working there after she had her twin boys in 2003. After some rather amazing months of juggling red headed babies, she began teaching part time at Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC). Now she teaches writing classes with some literature classes mixed in here and there.

She enjoys the unique challenges of teaching adults and her favorite part of her job is watching students as they begin to recognize their own abilities and gain confidence in their voices. It is exciting to watch people begin to unfold.

In addition to teaching and mothering, she plants a lot of flowers, plays a lot of tennis and spends as much time as possible with her two huge bay horses, Stretch and Tyson.
