Dr. Emilie Miller
Biology Instructor
Background
Emilie Miller is originally from the Portland area and acquired her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Oregon Health and Science University. Her research focused on characterizing mechanotransduction of hair cells of the inner ear. After graduate school, she moved to Boulder, CO where she was an adjunct professor at Front Range Community College teaching (both online and face-to-face) introductory biology, biology for majors, anatomy and physiology, and genetics. In addition Dr. Miller was actively involved in tutoring students of all ages and teaching after-school science classes at elementary schools. From her training in neuroscience, Dr. Miller believes that interaction with the material, in a variety of ways, is the most effective way for the brain to make new synaptic connections into a strong association. Students span an array of auditory learners, rote learners, visual learners, and even animated learners, and she utilizes a variety of teaching techniques to address these different learning styles.
