New Offerings in Career and Technical Ed
CGCC to Offer Certificates in Both Web Design Assistant and Web Development Assistant Beginning Summer 2018
For the past two academic years, CGCC has offered a one-year Web Development Assistant Certificate that provides graduates with the skills needed to assist website developers, an industry that is expected to grow at nearly double the average rate over the next few years. Starting in the 2018/2019 academic year, students can also earn a Web Design Assistant certificate. Because some of the required courses apply to both programs, students have the unique opportunity to earn both certificates by completing the additional coursework needed for the second certificate, thus further increasing their value to potential employers.
Although the course sequence is officially slated to begin in the fall, this summer students can get a jump start by enrolling for a special early offering of CAS 101 Introduction to Web Design and Development, an online one-credit required course. CAS 101 will also be offered Fall 2018 for those who wish to wait until fall to begin.
Basic Computer Skills Certificate
Beginning Fall 2018 CGCC students will be able to develop basic computer skills in keyboarding and MS Office applications as well as customer service while earning college credit that can lead to a certificate at the end of the five-course program. The certificate provides foundational skills that will aid students in successfully entering the workforce and can serve as a pathway into other certificates and degrees such as the two-year Administrative Assistant Associate of Applied Science degree for those who wish to continue building on their education beyond the Basic Computer Skills Certificate.
