Can I charge the rental to my financial aid?
Yes, you can use your financial aid to pay the rental fee.
Can I get a refund on a rented book if I decide I don’t want it or if I drop the class?
Yes. Refunds for rented textbooks will be treated in the same manner as refunds for purchased textbooks. Refunds are allowed through the first week of class. Please check the website for exact dates. New rental books must still be in new condition for a full refund. Receipts are required forb ALL refunds.
Can I return a book I bought at The Dalles Campus Bookstore to the Hood River - Indian Creek Campus Bookstore (or vise versa)?
Yes, you can return a book at either campus, regardless of where you purchased it. You may receive a full refund for books if they are returned in their original condition (including shrink wrap when applicable) and accompanied by a sales receipt during the first week of each term for which they were purchased.
Can I use a highlighter in my rental books?
Minimal highlighting and marking is allowed. If marks are excessive (more than a few pages) you will be charged the difference between the rental and purchase prices.
How do I find my books in The Dalles Campus Bookstore?
Start by bringing your schedule with you so you know what classes and instructors you have. The same class often has more than one section with different instructors who require different books.
The books are organized alphabetically by the course code. For example, Introduction to Physical Anthropology has course code ATH 101 and the books are located on the bookshelves at the front of the store, while Introduction to Expository Writing has course code WR 115 and those books are on the bookshelves toward the back.
The bookshelves are labeled with the course code, course title, instructor, title of the textbook, and cost.
How do I know what books I'll need for my class?
By using the Booklist which is available online or in the bookstore. You can search it by course number, course title, and instructor. The booklist will have all the information you need; the price for new and used books, the title, author, publisher and the ISBN. The ISBN is a unique number that is assigned to every book. If you are buying your book from a source other than CGCC Bookstore be sure to use the ISBN to order your book. That way you will have the correct edition and get the exact same book that the instructor is requiring.
How does financial aid work in the bookstore?
Eligible students may use their financial aid to pay for books and supplies in the bookstore; we call it "Charging on your student account". Refer to the course schedule for specific dates of availability for financial aid.
How much do you buy back used books for?
We only buy back books that were purchased from CGCC Bookstores. In general, depending on condition, the bookstore will buy back books at half of the purchase price. Not all books are bought back, only ones that will be required for a future class.
My class is at the Hood River Campus, where do I buy my books?
Books for Hood River - Indian Creek Campus courses are sold at the Hood River - Indian Creek Campus Bookstore. Stop at the front desk and tell them the classes you need books for. The front desk person will get the books for you and has a register for you to pay or charge the books.
What can I charge to my student account?
Generally, students may charge required textbooks and supplies to financial aid awards or third parties depending on the requirements of the funding source. Unsure of what you can charge? What do I need to do before I can charge in the bookstore?
Check your student account under "Pay My Bill". Do you have a credit balance? If so, you may charge books and supplies up to this total amount. A credit balance exists when your total payments exceed your total charges each term. If you have a credit balance, after all tuition and fees have been paid, from either your financial aid award or third party authorization you will be able to charge in the bookstore.

What if I decide I want to keep a rented book?
Great! All you need to do is bring the book back by the close of business on the last day of final exams and we will charge you the difference between the rental and purchase price of the new or used book you rented.
When is the book Buyback?
The Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) book buyback takes place on the Wednesday & Thursday of the last week of each term (finals week). Wednesday at the Hood River - Indian Creek Campus, Thursday at The Dalles Campus.
There is no cash refund for books bought back and the only books eligible for buyback are ones that were purchased from CGCC Bookstore. Student accounts will be credited for the books bought back reducing fees owed either for the current term or the following term. If this is your last term and there is nothing owed on your account a check will be issued for the buyback amount.
Why isn’t the book for my class available for rent?
Not all classes will have rental books available, in addition the rental program is new and we are working on adding more titles each term.
Will the Bookstore hold books for me?
No, books are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
